PRIX EUROPA 2008 Europe selects its best productions: Television - Radio - Emerging Media
This year's nominations for the biggest European competition for television, radio and emerging media PRIX EUROPA 2008 are out! 213 productions from 31 European countries are running in the eight categories. During the festival week from 18 to 25 October they will be competing for one of the twelve sought-after Taurus Trophies, which will be awarded during the Prize-Giving Gala in RBB, Haus des Rundfunks in the presence of Hans-Gert Pöttering, President of the European Parliament.
All 582 entries from 36 European countries show how much Europe is a continent of contrasting individual experience. "On a national, regional and even local level the productions are remarkably diverse. The variety of themes, ways of thinking and producing reflect what is happening in Europe in a telling and exciting manner", says festival director Susanne Hoffmann.
More than 1000 participants are expected for PRIX EUROPA 2008. The festival week is marked by a unique and transparent jury system, which stimulates the dialogue between international journalists, media-makers and managers in big open jury groups. Every participant who takes part in all the presentations and discussions of one category has a vote. You can also register as an observer and sample different jurys. The aim is to promote quality programmes under the label "Made in Europe" and incite a lively exchange on the international media market.
The competition is carried out in eight categories: TV Fiction, TV Documentary, TV Current Affairs, TV IRIS for multicultural television programmes, PRIX GENÈVE-EUROPE for the best television fiction script, Radio Fiction, Radio Documentary and the online-category Emerging Media.
The Qur'an is nominated for Best TV Documentary.
Immigration: The Inconvenient Truth - A Funeral Pyre is nominated for Best TV IRIS Multicultural Programme.
